HOW TO FIND US:
The fishery is hidden away within a secluded, heavily wooded site within the Charente dept, which is said to be the second sunniest region in the whole of France.
Travelling times are approx 5-6 hours from the Brittany and Normandy ports on excellent, normally very quiet roads. The majority of which are motorways. Travelling time from Calais is an hour or so longer but is now very easy simply following the A28 motorway. The journey from Calais to Poitiers is now entirely motorways and using the A16, A28 and A10 motorways has cut an hour off the journey. Poitiers to the lake is on a good major road the N147.
We suggest Portsmouth to Le Havre with LD Lines. These crossings are usually cheaper, and the journey from Le Havre is almost entirely on motorways.
NATURE AND THE COUNTRYSIDE:
The property is a very natural site which is a true haven for wildlife. Numerous mammals and birds seldom, if ever, seen in Britain can be regularly seen and photographed around the lake and surround areas. These include Hoopoe, different species of deer, red squirrels, pine martens, red and black kites, hen harriers, ospreys and the occasional eagle. We are delighted to have resident golden orioles and pied flycatchers in the summer months. Beautifully coloured lizards and salamanders are also common around the lake.
If you're into trees, the site has dozens of different species, including native hardwoods & deciduous trees, firs, conifers and spruce, along with some imports. Included are black poplar, walnut, American oak, lime, white willows, copper birch, copper hazel, magnolias, eucalyptus, contorted willow, tulip tree, Mexican bean, dogwoods, paper handkerchief tree and Chilean lantern trees.
PLACES OF INTEREST:
Places of interest nearby include; the tragic village of Oradour sur Glane, destroyed by retreating Germans in 1944 with the loss of 630 villagers lives. As a memorial the village has been left exactly as it was after the massacre making this an absolute must see.
A large outdoor leisure centre is also close by, as is Futurescope. Both ideal for any youngsters in your group.
The stunning river Vienne is just a few miles away and a large barrage, about 2 miles long, is just up the road to the north.
The beautiful town of Confolens is a 10 minute drive from the fishery and has just about every type of shop you could want. It also has some interesting old architecture in the form of buildings and bridges over the river Vienne which runs through the centre of the town.
