We've worked really hard to create a top quality fishery and have tried to keep the rules to a minimum. The vast majority are simple common sense and consideration to ensure the comfort of other anglers and the welfare of the fish.
NETS & WEIGH SLINGS:
We provide all the nets and weigh slings you need.
RODS:
Three rods only per angler, an extra rod may be allowed at times when less than the maximum anglers are on. ALWAYS check first. We recommend carp rods between 2.25 & 2.75lbs.
FISH TREATMENT:
NEVER leave a fish unattended on the mat. Treat any damage and hook marks with Clinic, Medi-carp or similar
TERMINAL TACKLE:
NO fixed leads or longshank bent hooks.
After our first two seasons we are convinced that excessive mouth damage has been caused by long shank nailers and Fox series 5 hooks. With this in mind we have no option but to ban their use.
NO wire traces for catfish. Catfish traces and terminal tackle are available on site, if you don’t have your own.
When using artificial plastic baits, please remember that, after a break off, they will continue to fish. Therefore the rigs must be ultra safe.
Leadcore can be used but once again these must be ultra safe rigs!
RIGS WILL BE REGULARLY CHECKED.
NUTS, PARTICLES, CEREALS & PULSES:
Absolutely NO peanuts, Vitalin or cereal based ground baits, although small quantities of quality method mixes are fine.
OTHER EQUIPMENT:
Landing nets of minimum 42” are essential.
NO braided lines, and minimum 15lb bs for carp and 30lb bs recommended, (but minimum 25lbs), for catfish.
MARKING OF FISH ABSOLUTELY NO MUTILATION OF FISH FOR INDENTIFICATION PURPOSES.
NONE FISHING ITEMS:
Don’t bring airguns, traps & hunting catapults, as anyone found trying to kill or injure livestock, will likewise be ejected.
SACKING:
Sacking of fish is not permitted. It’s not unreasonable to assume that any angler, who can afford two or three thousand pounds worth of tackle, can also afford a camera for night shots. However, you may hold a fish in a landing net for a short period.
RETRIEVAL OF HITCHED TACKLE:
If you cast into overhanging bushes or trees, and break off, you must retrieve the tackle immediately. We’ve had at least two fish tethered in this way, one was released alive, but the second, (a 29lb common), was found dead, tethered to an overhanging branch. THIS IS A GOLDEN RULE, but if you don’t feel safe or competent in a boat, you MUST ask for help from others.
GENERAL:
No pets are allowed. Youngsters between 12 and 16 years have insurance implications, so please talk to martin first. NB. We do not consider that the site is suitably safe for youngster under 12 years, and we will not normally accept them. Crapping round the banks is totally unacceptable.
WHAT YOU ARE VERY WELCOME TO DO OR USE:
Sweetcorn, meats, Pepperami, luncheon meat, bacon grill, cheese, worms, maggots etc., carp or coarse fish pellets are fine, but NOT trout pellets. Dead Sea baits for catfish, or you can catch your own live baits from the lake. Frozen catfish baits will be available locally, or bring your own, but ONLY of marine origin.
Bait boats are allowed, (and highly recommended), and you are quite welcome to use the rowing boats on site, to set baits or bait up, but YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
Most anglers will want to socialise on the bank, and we agree that this highly desirable, but it is not acceptable to be off your rods at night. Small allowances may be made in the daytime, but talk to the bailiff beforehand. If you have to slip off, say to the toilet, you must ensure there is another angler within a few yards, to mind your rods.
You may want to have a few drinks, and we don’t have a problem with this. However, excessive alcohol abuse is unacceptable, so if you’ve had too many, reel your lines in, and sleep it off, QUIETLY. You must not cause a nuisance to others, or put yourself or the fish at risk. Being stoned on drugs is NOT acceptable, and if you choose to use them, you will be asked to leave.
If you land a badly damaged fish or damage one accidentally, keep it in a landing net, and tell Martin or Lisa. They know what to do, and may be able to save it. We fully understand that, despite all precautions, accidents still happen occasionally, so please don’t try to cover up.
The lake is in a high fire risk area. Please be extra careful with cigarette ends, and use the sand buckets. Take extra care with any naked flames.
NB. Please understand that the fishery and particularly the fish are our livelihood. We have to safeguard them for ourselves, all future anglers, and maybe even for your own group, if you choose to come back. Therefore, we may, at any time ask to check your rigs. Refusal to allow this or, in the event of finding that you are using, or deliberately doing anything which is blatantly in contravention of the rules, and/or putting the fish at risk, will probably result in you being asked to leave.
Remember that we are here to help, and totally committed to doing our very best to ensure that you have a memorable holiday, and hopefully catch many, and sizeable, fish. Please help us create a first class fishery, and a friendly atmosphere. All we ask is that you show all possible respect for the property, and more importantly the fish.
Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.
